More on Pashupati...re the cremations..which are very public...the deceased is laid on a slab near the river and sprinkled/washed with water from the river..the body then is covered with a guaze and the orange cover...then taken over to the cremation site...There are stacks of logs upon which the body is set....flammable material in the mouth is lit first and then the entire pile is set afire.
A young man next to me said it takes 1 and a half hours for the lower body and 2 and a half for the upper body to turn to ash..I was "grateful" for the info..we didn't stay to see if he was accurate. The ashes end up in the river which has religious significance.
